Jeff Jarrett Plans to Compete Tonight on AEW Dynamite After Father’s Passing

Published on

Jeff Jarrett, a highly distinguished professional wrestling veteran in various roles such as in-ring competitor, promoter, and backstage executive, recently suffered a personal tragedy as his father, Jerry Jarrett, passed away. Jerry’s death is a significant loss for Jeff and the entire wrestling community, as Jerry was one of its pioneers. Despite this tragedy, Jeff is determined to fulfill his professional obligations.

Jerry Jarrett, who was 80 years old, passed away recently. During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan, the President of AEW, confirmed that Jeff Jarrett, Jerry’s son, still intends to compete on AEW Dynamite tonight.

“Jeff is here in Laredo, Texas today with us,” Khan said. “And Jeff has said he wants to wrestle tonight on the show and push forward. And that is such a brave and courageous decision, I think, and we would respect whatever Jeff wants to do.”

Tony Khan spoke about the passing of Jerry Jarrett and described him as a “visionary” and “one of the best promoters ever” in the wrestling industry. The iconic Continental Wrestling Association promoter received a wave of tributes from across the wrestling community yesterday and today.

Jeff Jarrett was initially scheduled to participate in an eight-man tag team match on AEW Dynamite. Based on Tony Khan’s recent comments, the match will proceed as planned this week.

In tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Jeff Jarrett will team up with Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Sonjay Dutt to take on Orange Cassidy, the Best Friends, and “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn. The Acclaimed and Gunn saved the Best Friends and Danhausen from Jarrett, Lethal, Singh, and Dutt’s attack in last week’s episode of “AEW Rampage,” which set up the eight-man tag team match.

Given that their opponents have been working together for months, the Acclaimed has little history with Orange Cassidy and the Best Friends, which gives Jeff Jarrett and his allies a possible advantage going into the match. Additionally, with Jeff Jarrett competing for just a day after his father’s passing, he will likely pay tribute to his father, Jerry Jarrett, during the show, as a touching remembrance of his father’s legacy for the fans.
