The Legacy of Pillman Continues, But With a Twist in the Tale
The wrestling landscape is ever-evolving, and WWE’s recent signings are a testament to that. While Jade Cargill’s impending debut is creating ripples, another name that’s been the talk of the town is Brian Pillman Jr. However, fans expecting to see the “Pillman” name in NXT might be in for a surprise.
WWE’s penchant for rebranding talents, even those with established names, is well-documented. The rationale? Owning and trademarking unique names that resonate with the WWE brand. And Brian Pillman Jr. is the latest to undergo this transformation.
Sources from the Performance Center have hinted that Brian Pillman Jr. will be introduced to the NXT audience as “Lexis King.” This name holds significance and is a heartfelt nod to Pillman’s family. “Lexis” is believed to be an homage to Alexis, Brian Pillman’s half-sister who tragically lost her life in a car accident. Meanwhile, “King” is a tribute to Melanie King, Brian Pillman Jr.’s mother.
Brian Pillman Jr. carved a niche for himself in AEW as one-half of the Varsity Blondes. His partnership with Griff Garrison was notable, but that chapter has closed with Pillman’s move to NXT. Garrison won’t be accompanying him, and neither will the Pillman name.
While the name change might raise eyebrows, it’s essential to remember that the essence of the wrestler remains unchanged. Brian Pillman Jr., or Lexis King, is poised to make waves in NXT, and fans are eagerly awaiting his next move.
