Longtime fan favorite let go as post-WrestleMania roster cuts continue

Summary

– Dakota Kai has reportedly been released from WWE after nearly a decade with the company

– Her recent departure from Damage CTRL left her without an active storyline

– WWE continues trimming talent following WrestleMania 41

Another familiar name is gone from WWE. According to Sean Ross Sapp, Dakota Kai has been released from her WWE contract, joining the list of stars let go in the wake of WrestleMania 41.

Kai signed with WWE in 2015 and became a standout in NXT before transitioning to the main roster. Known for her passionate fanbase, unique in-ring style, and emotional storytelling, Kai was most recently aligned with Bayley and Iyo Sky as part of Damage CTRL. But with that faction’s recent dissolution, her direction became unclear.

Kai had previously competed in STARDOM before signing with WWE and built a global following through her performances and character work. Her release, while disappointing to fans, opens the door for potential returns to the independent or international scene—where she made a name for herself before WWE.

WWE has yet to issue an official comment on her departure.
