Rockstar may be bringing Liberty City to a new generation.
Summary
– GTA 4 could be coming to PS5, according to insider reports
– A 2024 release is rumored, alongside the removal of fan mods
– Port may set the stage for GTA 6’s Liberty City connections
GTA 4 may finally be getting the remaster treatment fans have long requested, as reports suggest a PS5 port of the game is currently in development. Rockstar insider Tez2 posted on GTA Forums that a source hinted that the project was well underway, and the port could drop later this year.
This news comes amid the continued wait for GTA 6, which is still scheduled for 2025. With no way to play GTA 4 natively on PS4 or PS5 consoles, a remaster would fill a major gap in Rockstar’s modern lineup. The timing also aligns with Rockstar’s takedown of popular fan-made Liberty City mods, adding further credibility to the report.
GTA 4’s return could serve as more than just nostalgia. In the latest GTA 6 trailer, protagonist Lucia is revealed to have grown up in Liberty City, sparking speculation that Rockstar may want to refresh players’ memories of the gritty, New York-inspired setting. Though darker in tone than its predecessors, GTA 4 remains a fan-favorite thanks to its grounded story, refined mechanics, and acclaimed expansions The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.
While Rockstar has not officially confirmed anything, the clues are stacking up. If true, the return of Niko Bellic could help bridge the gap until players finally set foot in Vice City again next year.
According to Tez, the long anticipated GTAIV port appears to be in-development for current-gen consoles per his source.
