The PlayStation 5 once again dominated the global console market in April 2025, selling an estimated 671,845 units, according to VGChartz. This brings the PS5’s lifetime sales to 75.58 million, firmly cementing its lead over current competitors.
Nintendo Switch came in second with 350,417 units sold, pushing its staggering lifetime total to 150.36 million. Xbox Series X|S landed third with 205,866 units for the month and a lifetime mark of 32.98 million units.
Despite leading the market, all three consoles posted lower numbers than the previous year and the previous month. PS5 sales are down 14.2% from April 2024, Switch sales have dropped nearly 50% year-over-year, and Xbox Series X|S saw a modest 2.1% decline. Compared to April 2018, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S trail their predecessors by significant margins.
In 2025, PS5 leads with 3.54 million units sold, followed by the Switch at 1.73 million and Xbox Series X|S at 990,000. With each platform facing a market slowdown, the rest of the year will reveal how long PS5 can keep its top spot as new hardware rumors and next-gen speculation grow.
