Modder Faces Unexpected Setback After Take-Two’s Aggressive Stance on “Sentient Streets” Mod

Rockstar Games’ recent acquisition of the “Grand Theft Auto V” creator group, Cfx.re, had many believing in a more lenient approach towards modding. However, publisher Take-Two Interactive has proven otherwise by targeting a fan-made mod named “Sentient Streets.” This mod, which utilized AI technology to spontaneously generate NPC conversation dialogue, has been abruptly removed from both YouTube and NexusMods.

The mod’s storyline centered around an AI-worshipping death cult, with NPCs having dialogue generated by the “InWorld Character Engine.” The mod had gained significant attention, with a video showcasing it amassing over 100,000 views on YouTube before its removal. Additionally, it had been downloaded more than 3,000 times on NexusMods.

Take-Two’s aggressive stance against fan projects isn’t new. They have a history of issuing DMCA takedowns, filing lawsuits, and even allegedly dispatching private investigators to players’ residences. Despite this, GTA V’s roleplay communities, backed by third-party mods and servers, continue to thrive, contributing significantly to the game’s sustained popularity.
