Liv Morgan’s year has been a rollercoaster, filled with challenges, triumphs, and moments of self-reflection. After missing six months due to a serious shoulder injury that required surgery, she had to watch her former tag team partner, Rhea Ripley, rise to stardom. Feeling helpless at home during recovery, Morgan’s frustration became motivation, leading to her impactful return as the 30th entry in the Royal Rumble.

Eight months later, she finds herself just one win away from closing this chapter. Morgan will defend her WWE Women’s World Championship against Ripley at Bad Blood on October 5. The match, featuring Dominik Mysterio suspended in a shark cage above the ring, will be WWE’s first shark cage match in seven years.

“It’s interesting to be on the other side of [Ripley’s stardom] and be building my superstardom in my own right,” Morgan stated, reflecting on her journey. She used her injury break to evaluate herself and elevate her game, bringing her the most successful career run. After winning her second world title at King and Queen of the Ring in May, Morgan successfully defended it against Becky Lynch in a steel cage match on Raw.

Morgan has found new freedom with her current on-screen persona. “When I was sweet little Liv, you have to be particular about the things that you do and you say,” she explained. “It’s so much easier for people to hate you than it is to get people to love you. There’s so much freedom because it just doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter really ultimately, and there is something freeing just knowing that.”

Mysterio being suspended above the ring plays into his storyline of being imprisoned, adding layers to Morgan’s rivalry with Ripley and The Judgment Day. Morgan quipped on Mysterio’s shark cage predicament, “The trauma this man has for shark cages, being behind bars again… My goal is to get him down there as fast as I possibly can.”

Morgan also shared her excitement about being in a faction, reminiscent of her days with The Riott Squad. She now finds herself balancing solo success with faction dynamics in her storyline, which includes new rivalries with Jey Uso as he flirts with Ripley. “It’s super different. Being a solo competitor, everything you do is focused on you… In a faction, you share that responsibility with everyone else.”

Morgan also commented on WWE’s decision to reduce live events in 2025. “I’m sad to see them kind of go a little bit because the house shows are so much fun and it’s so, so much more intimate. House shows are truly for the love of the game.” She added that newer talents may miss out on the valuable experience gained from those live events.

As Bad Blood approaches, Morgan is laser-focused on her upcoming match. “Man, it’s gonna feel so good to crush her at Bad Blood,” she declared. With her title on the line and personal rivalries intensifying, fans are in for an unforgettable showdown.
