Kevin Owens Calls Out Over-the-Top Stunner Sells

Prefers realism but praises Austin Theory’s timing and execution

Summary

– Kevin Owens says exaggerated Stunner reactions hurt the move’s impact

– Austin Theory is one exception Owens says “nails it”

– Owens prefers sells that highlight the move rather than distract from it

Kevin Owens has used the Stone Cold Stunner as his finisher for over five years, but he’s not a fan of how some opponents sell the iconic move. Speaking on *Insight with Chris Van Vliet*, Owens said that overly dramatic reactions can make the Stunner look weak instead of powerful.

“Some guys just go overboard, which I think ends up making the Stunner itself look terrible,” Owens said. “I’ve seen guys doing standing Moonsaults on it, and I find that so dumb.”

Owens noted that while legends like Scott Hall and The Rock were known for wild reactions, his preference leans toward more grounded, realistic sells. Still, he made one big exception—Austin Theory.

“Austin Theory, it’s so over the top. But somehow, he nails it,” Owens said. “The timing is perfect. The way he does it is perfect. Everyone goes, ‘Holy… Did you see that?’ But he still manages to make the move look good.”

He also praised Shane McMahon’s consistent approach to taking the Stunner, emphasizing that good timing and impact sell the move best.

“I don’t like the ones that are more about making people go, ‘Wow, look how he sold it,’ than actually making the move look good,” Owens added.
