WrestleMania 39 rumored line up including Cena and Rousey

Published on

A number of bouts have already been confirmed for WrestleMania 39

Despite not being a part of recent WWE storylines, both Ronda Rousey and John Cena have upcoming matches scheduled for WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Dave Meltzer discussed the line-up for WrestleMania 39 in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Meltzer said:

“For WrestleMania, the locked in matches at this point are Reigns vs. Rhodes for the Universal title, Charlotte Flair vs. Ripley for the Smackdown women’s title, Belair vs. the Chamber winner for the Raw women’s title, John Cena vs. Austin Theory (no word on whether this will or won’t be a U.S. title match) and Iyo Sky & Dakota Kai vs. Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler for the women’s tag team titles.”

Ronda Rousey stated her disinterest in reclaiming her singles title from Charlotte Flair and expressed her desire to chase the tag team titles with her partner, Shayna Baszler, during a live video game stream last month.

John Cena is occupied with filming the movie “Ricky Stanicky” in Australia with Zac Efron, so it is unlikely that he will be involved in the lead up to WrestleMania 39.

Other potential matchups that have been hinted at but not officially confirmed for WrestleMania 39 include Seth Rollins taking on Logan Paul, The Usos facing off against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, and a highly-anticipated showdown between Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik, who was recently released from incarceration.

Another match that could be on the WrestleMania 39 card is Edge vs. Finn Balor. A Hell in a Cell showdown between the two was previously scheduled for the Royal Rumble, but it was cancelled as Edge was occupied with shooting the Disney+ series, “Percy Jackson and The Olympian”. Edge is portraying Ares, the Greek God of War, in the show. WWE seems to be setting up a match between Balor and Rhea Ripley against Edge and Beth Phoenix for the Elimination Chamber event.

Brock Lesnar is slated to appear in both WrestleMania 39 and the Elimination Chamber event in Montreal. As of now, his opponent for either show has not been confirmed, but he is currently engaged in a storyline with Bobby Lashley.

WWE Senior VP and Head of Global Sales and Partnerships, Craig Stimmel, announced to the Hollywood Reporter on Thursday that WrestleMania will feature a brand-sponsored match similar to the Mountain Dew Pitch Black match.
